25 Stats that are Hard to Believe

1. Mike Trout has scored 88 runs in 92 games played
2. 36 year-old David Ortiz, just one of many Red Sox to land on the DL this season, still leads the American League in OBP, SLG and OPS
3. Fantasy zombie Ryan Ludwick has one fewer home run (21)  than team leader Jay Bruce
4. Since returning from the Disabled List on July 6th, Ryan Howard has whiffed 40 times in 100 at-bats
5. Jon Lester and Josh Beckett combined have won fewer games than Jake Westbrook, Jason Vargas, and Max Scherzer, among others
6. Brandon Morrow, who hasn't made a start since June 11th, is the major league leader in shutouts with three (tied with Felix Hernandez)
7. Joe Blanton has the best K/BB ratio in the bigs with 5.86 whiffs per walk
8. Nobody has more losses or wild pitches than Tim Lincecum, who also leads the NL in earned runs
9. The Red Sox led the American League in OBP last season, largely because they were second in walks.  This year only three AL teams are walking less frequently
10. The two top home run-hitting catchers thus far are A.J. Pierzynski and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.  Pat yourself on the back if you saw that one coming
11. The Baltimore Orioles, at 62-53 are nine games above .500 despite having a -49 run differential on the season. According to their Pythagorean W-L, they should be eleven games under .500.  I'm still waiting for regression to bite them in the butt, but it hasn't happened yet and there's only six weeks left in the season
12. Speaking of the O's, Adam Jones is their only player with more than six stolen bases on the year
13. Among National League third baseman, Chase Headley ranks second in home runs (behind Pedro Alvarez) and RBI (behind David Wright).  That's even more impressive because he plays half his games at Petco and has almost no supporting cast to speak of
14. If you extrapolate Kevin Youkilis's numbers since joining the White Sox over the course of 152 games, he would score 108 runs, crank out 40 homers, knock in 116 and draw 92 walks.  In related news, the man who replaced him in Boston--Will Middlebrooks--will miss the remainder of the season with a broken wrist.
15. 40 year-old Chipper Jones is batting .310/.390/.496 on the season, which will be the last of his illustrious Hall of Fame career.  Good to see him go out on a high note
16. Brothers Rickie Weeks and Jemile Weeks have both crossed home plate 50 times this season.
17. Brothers B.J. Upton and Justin Upton have both driven in 46 runs this season
18. Desmond Jennings is 21 for 22 in stolen base attempts.  That's a 95 percent success rate
19. Alfonso Soriano has gone yard at least 20 times in eleven consecutive seasons.  He now has 360 (and counting) career big flies
20. Emilio Bonifacio has stolen two more bases (30) than Jose Reyes despite playing in 52 fewer games
21. Cincinatti's starting five of Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos, Bronson Arroyo, Homer Bailey and Mike Leake have started all 115 of the Reds' games this year
22. Josh Reddick has 25 home runs, more than Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, Mark Teixeira, and Andrew McCutchen, among others
23. Among National Leaguers only Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday have piled up more RBI than Jason Kubel
24. Aramis Ramirez leads the Senior Circuit in extra base hits
25. Since the beginning of last season, Ryan Vogelsong has a 2.51 ERA, almost as good as Johnny Cueto's 2.38 mark
