With most teams at or about to reach the season's midway point, it's time to check out some interesting on-pace numbers. All I did was double their current statistics.
AL East
BAL-Adam Jones is on pace for 36 doubles, 38 home runs, and 348 total bases: Also, Chris Davis is on pace for 28 home runs and 28 walks
BOS-Jarrod Saltalamacchia is on pace for 32 home runs, while Adrian Gonzalez is on pace for 12. Shouldn't it be the other way around?
NYY-Derek Jeter is on pace for 202 hits; it would be his eighth season with at least 200 base knocks, tying him with Paul Waner and the "Iron Horse" Lou Gehrig for third most all-time.
TBR-Carlos Pena is on pace for 104 walks and 206 strikeouts, and could bat below .200 for the second time in the past three seasons. Gotta love Tampa Bay embracing the Moneyball philosophy
TOR-Brett Lawrie is on pace for 10.0 bWAR, the most for any position player since Barry Bonds in 2004. Jose Bautista is on pace for 54 big flies. Yawn.
AL Central
CLE-Carlos Santana is mirroring Casey Kotchman's pace for just ten home runs and 58 RBI. He's been a major disappointment this year. Shin-Soo Choo is on pace for 50 doubles.
CWS-Adam Dunn is on pace for career highs with 50 home runs, 120 RBI, 132 walks, and 252 strikeouts. The strikeout total would shatter Mark Reynolds' major league record of 223.
DET-Prince Fielder is on pace for just 24 home runs.
KCR-Alex Gordon is on pace for 50 two-baggers, and Billy Butler is on pace for 32 four-baggers.
MIN-Trevor Plouffe is on pace for 38 home runs, but just 70 RBI (16 of his 19 home runs have been solo shots). The always underrated Josh Willingham is on pace for 42 doubles, 36 dingers and 118 RBI.
AL West
LAA-A slow start has Albert Pujols is on pace for 84 runs, 170 hits, 26 home runs, 98 RBI, 60 walks, and 290 total bases, all career lows.
OAK-Josh Reddick is on pace for 38 home runs, 100 runs scored and 310 total bases. Given Boston's slew of injuries in the outfield to Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury, I'm guessing GM Ben Cherington would trade back Andrew Bailey in a heartbeat.
SEA-Kyle Seager is quietly on pace for 40 doubles, 20 home runs and 94 RBI.
TEX-Josh Hamilton has really cooled off, hasn't he? He is still on pace for 50 home runs, 146 RBI, and 362 total bases, provided that he stays healthy of course.
NL East
ATL-Dan Uggla is on pace for 22 home runs. He's never hit fewer than 27 since breaking in six years ago and has topped 30 in each of the past five seasons. He is on pace for a career-best 106 walks, though.
MIA-Hanley Ramirez is on pace for 24 home runs and 20 steals, which would be his fifth 20/20 season in the past six years.
NYM-David Wright is back, ladies and gentlemen. He's on pace for 108 runs, 198 hits, 52 doubles, 20 home runs, 108 RBI, 96 walks, 318 total bases and 16 steals.
PHI-Carlos Ruiz is on pace for 38 doubles, 24 home runs, and 88 RBI, numbers you'd normally expect out of Brian McCann. He's also on pace to get plunked 24 times. Ouch.
WSN-Ian Desmond is on pace for 48 doubles, 28 home runs, 90 RBI and 322 total bases, though it would still be nice if he took a walk every once in a while.
NL Central
CHC-His albatross contract is untradeable, he plays shoddy defense and the phrase "plate discipline" means nothing to him, but 36 year-old Alfonso Soriano can still mash. He's on pace for 30 home runs and 92 ribbies.
CIN-Joey Votto is on pace for 66 doubles, just one shy of the major league record of 67 set by Boston's Earl Webb in 1931.
HOU-Speedster Jordan Schafer, proud owner a career .310 slugging percentage, is on pace for 158 strikeouts. When did it become acceptable for players with less power than Juan Pierre to whiff as often as Reggie Jackson?
MIL Aramis Ramirez seems to have turned his season around after a sluggish beginning to his Brewers career; the 34 year-old third baseman is on pace for 48 doubles, 20 home runs and 98 RBI. Those are nice numbers, but not as good as Ryan Braun's 46 homer/116 RBI pace. Then again somebody has to pick up the slack for Rickie Weeks, who's on pace for 192 strikeouts.
PIT-Andrew McCutchen is on pace for a monster all-around season: 104 runs, 208 hits, 34 doubles, 32 home runs, 108 RBI, 28 steals, and 354 total bases. Not quite Matt Kemp from last year, but pretty darned close.
STL-Yadier Molina, who averaged six home runs and 52 RBI per year from 2005 through 2010, is on pace for 26 home runs and 90 RBI this season.
NL West
ARI-Jason Kubel has been great in his debut with the Snakes, as he's on pace to replicate his age-27 breakout from 2009 with 38 doubles, 26 home runs, and 110 RBI.
COL-Carlos Gonzalez is on pace to repeat his 2010 season, when he finished third in the MVP race behind Votto and Pujols. His Coors Field-aided stat line is projected for 118 runs, 200 hits, 36 doubles, 34 home runs, 116 RBI, 20 steals, and 354 total bases. If the Rockies weren't the second worst team in baseball, he'd have a legitimate case for first half MVP.
LAD-Andre Ethier, on pace for 46 doubles, 20 home runs and 110 RBI, has been the productive middle-of-the-order bat that LA needs him to be with Matt Kemp still on the mend.
SDP-Chase Headley is on pace for 96 walks.
SFG-Melky Cabrera, the Melk Man, is proving that last year's breakout was legit; Leche is on pace for 106 runs, 224 hits, 34 doubles, 14 triples, 14 home runs, 20 steals, and 328 total bases.
